Schools should teach how to think, not what to think.

I am an Ordained Minister and i think that religion has no place in school.
you teach them math and science and reading and writeing.
that is what you do.
i will teach them about the gods that is what i do.
if we were to teach religion in school we would have to cover all religions, and that means employing a priest of each religion because religion is faith an Atheist can not teach faith. just as a Pagan such as myself cannot teach Christianity. and a Muslim cannot teach Buddahism.
our children are already falling behind in the world market because of a lack of good education, now people want to take pracious class time to teach them what PARENTS and PRIESTS should be teaching at home and on the weekends.
the school is responsible for academics.
the parnets and the priests of their chosen religions are responsible for the soul.

We should teach religion in school because God want us to tell human being about Jesus. To me it sounds like you are an atheist and I hope you get saved. The only reason students will think school is a joke is that they only focus on the natural instead of the supernatural. A lot of the stuff in the Bible sounds impossible until you get the point that it is impossible for man but nothing is impossible with God.If you start looking up creationism on the internet you will find a lot of evidence that evolution is not true.I recommend two books by Lee Strobel. The Case for Christ and The Cases for Faith. By the way Lee Strobel used to be an atheist but then he started to explore evidence for Christ and he got saved. God Bless you!!!

The kids would soon have to decide for themselves what to believe in.
I am an atheist and I wouldn't mind religion being taught in school, as long as it is an ELECTIVE CLASS, and it teaches ALL the world religions.
But, personally, I think if you want to learn about religion, do it in church or in the library. The kids have enough to study at school as it is.

I think kids should be taught world religion (ie the basic principles of all the major religions). This way kids are forearmed with an understanding of other religions - with the current state of the world's problems being much to do with religion, it is extremely beneficial to understand a little of the ethos and history of other religions.
As far as any other form of religious instruction - no, that's what church is for

In private, religious schools, religion is taught. Public schools, of course, cannot teach religion.
In the Catholic, Lutheran, etc. schools, religion is taught starting in first grade or below. Therefore, by the time the kids start learning about scientific discoveries, their religious faith is already established.

There's no reason not to teach ABOUT religions. Teaching any religion as fact in school is wrong but children can honestly distinguish the two if given the opportunity.
If people actually knew more about other faiths, they might not be so quick to judge.

I believe that religion should be taught as literature. Since the Bible is a very important part of literature as a whole (many works allude to it), I believe the fact that there are students who can't be taught it is a huge disadvantage to the education system. But then again...what do I know?

No, I mean unless you are just teaching kids that people believe in this or that but to say this is a fact, and this religion is better over that no. Yeah maybe in history class

nope, maybe in history class, but that is it. After all, some kid will eventually ask what prompted the Crusades or the Spanish Inquisition. And you will need to teach a few things about religion to explain to them why Christians murdered tens of thousands of innocent people in each of these situations.

No, because our public schools would re-write the bible and teach it the "politically correct" way, kind of like they do some of the U.S. history now. Anything the government touches turns to crap. Leave the teaching of the gospel to men and women of God.
