This is a possibe shortlist of opponents. After Floyd wins (and in my opinion, he will win narrowly), I'd like to see him take on one of these...

Shane Mosely (Many people would clamour this one, to determine the pound for pound number one. The question is, would Floyd?)
Miguel Cotto (Lots of people want to see this)
Antonio Margarito (this one doesn't look very likely)
Paul Williams (Took Sharmba Mitchell out 2 rounds quicker than Floyd)
Ricky Hatton (even though I think Floyd would take Hatton out in 5 rounds, for what it's worth, I think it would be a decent fight)

Floyd has said before that he will be retiring after his fight with De la Hoya. I highly doubt it, though. Floyd is making huge money in boxing and is still no. 1. He is still in his prime. He has beaten almost all of the best available opposition. As for your question, it really depends. If Floyd wins, then he should keep taking on the best quality of opposition and keep piling the the money. Shane Mosley, Miguel Cotto, or Ricky Hatton would be huge for Floyd fanwise and moneywise.
In the case where Mayweather loses the fight with DLH, he should keep his promise and just retire with his legacy intact. If he intends to fight on, he should go back to weltertweight and take on an opponent that he would walk all over. Perhaps, Luis Collazo or Cory Spinks.

The toughest fight of Floyd Mayweather's career will be Shane Mosely, if Mayweather gets by Oscar. The blogbaba has Floyd a slight favorite against Oscar, and a slight underdog against Shane. Floyd isn't the type to duck anyone, so it's only a matter of time before we find out. I don't see Hatton as anywhere near a problem for Floyd.

If he beats Oscar (and that's a very big if) he should fight either Mosley or Hatton next. Mosley would be the one the public would be clamoring for though. Could see a big money re-match against De La Hoya in the fall though.

After Floyd BEATS De La Hoya i think Shane Mosley is mandatory. He should either take Shane or Margarito. Margarito is a fight that alot of people think he ducked and i think it would be good for his image to beat him. I would like to see him fight Ricky Hatton also. Theres been alot of talk about him and Hatton but i think Hatton don't want no parts of Mayweather.

Floyd will win either a clearcut unanimous decision or a late ref stoppage. After he beats DLH he should fight Mosley, rematch with Judah, Cory Spinks and then next year finish the year and his career by shutting out Winky Wright. He may not be appreciated much now but in 5 years people will be saying I remember Mayweather, he was the best ever and I watched him beat EVERYBODY!!!!

Floyd is gonna whoop Oscar all-night long. He could probably fight Sugar Shane Mosley, since he's calling him out.

DLH will defeat him. He is much bigger and will be stronger, Oscar is overdue for a big win.
