The "left behinders" think that when the Second Coming occurs, the righteous will go to heaven and the real war to end all wars will erupt on earth among everyone else.

They tend to be among the more dangerous of the ultra-religious, because they don't care about what happens to our planet - in fact, they're happy to help bring about the end of the world - because they'll be in heaven, laughing at all of us heathens/Muslims/Jews down here...

They are referring to Rev.19:14, That is armeggeddon, But if you notice That is Christ coming back with his bride, But Christ & his Bride had not yet set foot on the earth & they won't untill armeggedon is over, This is the part of heaven war is fought. Not the 3rd heaven that Paul was taken up to. Remember anything that is not touching the ground is consider heaven, But the 3rd heaven is that place where God has his Majestic glory at.

Firstly let me say that the Bible describes at least 3 heavens. Paul in II Corinthians 12:2 speaks of a man caught up to the third heaven. The third heaven is a reference to the heaven of God, the highest heaven. There is therefore an intermediate heaven and a lower heaven. It is in the lower heaven where Satan is situated and exercises his authority over the earth. Ephesians 2:2 refers to Satan as the Prince of the power (Authority) of the Air (Greek aer = lower atmosphere contiguous with the earth's surface).
When Christ's Kingdom comes, it will be in a series of progressive stages. It begins in Revelation 11:15 with the sounding of the seventh trumpet, and the declaration: "The Kingdom of the world has become the Kingdom of our Lord and of His Christ; and He will reign forever and ever."
Immediately after this, we find this event occurring:
"And there was war in heaven, Michael and his angels waging war with the dragon. And the dragon and his angels waged war, and they were not strong enough, and there was no longer a place found for them in heaven. And the great dragon was thrown down, the serpent of old who is called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was thrown down to earth, and his angels were thrown down with him....." (Revelation 12:7-9)
Immediately after this Satan manifests himself through a world ruler called the Antichrist, who reigns for a short time. His kingdom comes under terrible judgments of God that culminate in the battle of Armageddon, where Antichrist and his cohort, the False Prophet are thrown into the lake of fire. Satan is bound for a thousand years, released for a short time, leads a final rebellion against the Kingdom of Christ, is defeated, and thrown into the lake of fire, where he will be tormented forever (Revelation 20:10)

There already was a war in heaven when Michael the Archangel and his angels battled Satan and his angels(demons), and Satan and his angels(demons) lost and were thrown out of heaven, down to the vicinity of the earth. There will be no more war in heaven where God resides. God will wage war on earth at Armageddon, where his Son, Christ Jesus will lead the fight against all wickedness, then God will usher in his new system of things where righteousness will dwell and the righteous will inherit the earth and live for all eternity. Psalms 37:11,29.

No, the "war in Heaven" happened in the past. That was where Lucifer led 1/3 of the angels in revolt, and God kicked them out of Heaven, down here to Earth.

I am pretty familiar with Biblical Prophecy (I am a fundamentalist)--there is no "war in heaven" nor was there one "before". perhaps you misunderstood what someone said, or your source is confused.
