getting started in the Mafia?

Im doing a report on small time mafias in the US how does a person get involved into somthing like that? and what are the requirments

you need to start of small and usually now someone in the mafia froma a young age so that they can trust you. then you need to work for them until they can trust you and after that its up to them to see if they want to accept you as something more.

Well, if you mean the real Mafia and not the mickey-mouse replacements from Mexico, Columbia or Russia, then according to the books I've read you need to be friends with someone who has a relative in it - and it helps if your parents or ancestors knew that inside guy's family. Next, you need to establish yourself as standup so they can trust you won't squeal - particularly if you volunteer to take a small jail sentence as a favor to them. Then you either do someone a larger favor - they'd prefer that they wanted you to do it, rather than you gumming up the works by taking it upon yourself to off someone you think is their competitor that may actually turn out to be one of their friends that you may not know IS one of their friends. Then you go from there, realizing that if you're not full-blooded Italian you can never be a made man, just an associate. But, seriously, why on earth would anyone want to in today's world when they have turned to heroin which will get you ten in the slammer on the first offense?

The mafia is like truth, you can look and look and you might think you found it, but you only get to see a tiny fragment.

if they see you and want something you have that they can't take, they will find you. and that's why you won't.

PS there is no small time mafias. there is only one mafia and it's not called the mafia, only people who don't know anything about it, call it that.

my relatives were in the Irish mafia, normally immigrants they took advantage of peoples needs like during their time, alcohol during prohibition period. Could be a family business also

All of you guy's are incorrect and stupid they started concentrated on a clean demographic thats all ! whats liable to you should be the **** to a diverse individual ! Never done that. But in the movie, The Departed, the main character was recruited by the Mob boss because he was out committing crimes and the guy liked his work. Ha! I guess they have to be good at committing crimes is my answer.

I suggest you go to a local police station and ask some police officers abou that.If that doesn't work,go to the closest jail and request to intereview some prisoners that were involved in that sort of thing.
