First off, Wnidows ME is junk - I would never recommend running it for any reason, especially if you are running your business on it. Secondly, if you own a legitimate copy of AutoCAD you should have the CD and your own serial. If you lost it, contact the vendor and ask for a replacement copy - they will likely charge you something, but it should be much less than buying a new version.

You haven't been clear enough.

When you say 're-install my old slow system', are you
using entirely different hardware, or is this merely a
o/s software downgrade onto existing hardware?

If this is the case, and assuming your AutoCAD
software is genuine and relatively recent, then it
simply won't let you due to the way Autodesk
inbuilt copy protection works.

There is a way round it. Asking for a freebie version
of AutoCAD however, is not it! ;o)

Incidentally, there is nothing wrong with Win Me. If
one must use Windows, then it is a 'nice and light'
version of the o/s that is ideal for earlier systems
which won't take XP.
