They do it to themselves. You can't teach critical thinking with history lessons. Maybe beautifully articulate writing helps.

I don't care what religious people do and believe, as long as they stop blowing up themselves and innocent people, and keep their bronze age morals out of my bedroom. If they could do that I would be more tolerant of their contempt for science, education, and reason.

Religious moderates have a responsibility to keep the loonies in check. When they fail to do that, then as far as I'm concerned the whole belief system is fair game for criticism.

The atheists I have met showed no interest in proselytizing or "freeing people from religious tyranny." Who are these people? Can you name some examples of atheists who are concerned with freeing people from religious tyranny? Is that perhaps what Sam Harris and Richard Dawkins are doing? Who else do you have in mind?

All one needs to do is look at the example of France, and what happened when "enlightened atheists" tried to "free people" from "religious tyranny". They simply substituted the tyranny of the corrupt Catholic Church with another tyranny, atheistic socialism. Their country's morale went down the tubes; crime and vice became rampant - all because the Bible and church attendance was forbidden. Eventually, they came to their senses and allowed people to return to church, but they still have not recovered 100% from that fatal mistake.

If you hate religion so much, why are you atheists constantly in the Religion & Spirituality section? Go to the science section then. I cannot understand why you can't just let religious people alone!

Oh, and answerer "God", how do you propose to stop us? For a a group that's in the minority you sure talk bold. The theists way out number you!

There are two excuses they generally use, they're trying to educate us or that we are trying to convert them. I've never tried to convert anyone, but have seen so many rabid atheists here trying to unconvert us, its the pot calling the kettle black. Personally, I think they're just bored, whiney people trying to hurt others. The bully mentality. It's best to just ignore them, though sometimes we have to go thru pages of questions just to find a legitimate one, with all the trollish nonsense they constantly post.

Many aren't. Your just assuming that all of us are. I could ask you why do christians always trying to convert people, but I would be categorizing you all like you are doing right now to all atheist. Bottom line- Grow up and learn to ignore people if you don't agree with them.

Because I want to be free of their religious tyranny. The tyranny I see the religious imposing on the sane part of the population. I see how they are hurting people and holding back humanity. They don't need to be taught what to believe. They need to be stopped!

Thanks, but I'm happy with what I believe! Why do atheists feel so threatened because someone doesn't believe something exactly like they do???

Oh, and the hammer to the eye socket comment...very grown up

"We just don't like seeing people wasting their lives on something that is non existent. We want to see them doing something more productive. "

Well guess what? It's none of your business what I do! Goddess, you people sound like a bunch of thought police! I'll do whatever the Hell I want to do!

" I see how they are hurting people and holding back humanity. They don't need to be taught what to believe. They need to be stopped! "

Damn, I'm in Nazi Germany??? I can't believe what I'm reading!
How are you going to stop me from practicing witchcraft, a new Inquistion???

I have never met an atheist who was concerned with anything other than their own unbelief. They are usually so rapped up in the seeming rebellious nature of disavowing God, the conversation rarely leaves the topic of atheism.

Unless of course it degenerated into ridiculing people of faith.

the same reason religious people feel the need to convert others. they are that unsure of their thoughts that they feel the need to make others feel the way they do. misery loves company, dont you know. also none of them really know what they are talking about anyway, so they invent drastic scenarios in their little pea brains to further their cause.
