I was reading online about the feet per second (fps) of different airsoft guns. Some of them said the bb velocity in joules (i.e..2j,.7j,ect.) I was wondering how joules compare feet per second. How man joules are there in 300fps?

Joules measure the force it is shot with. FPS is the speed. There is no true conversion between them. You just have to choose between force and speed. (Long distance-speed or short distance-force)

Joules To Fps

they don't . joules take into account hte maximum amount of foce the amunition outputs at a certain point, usually marking at a point blank shot. a joule is found ( i believe) by multiplying the feet per second and the mass of the bb to get the force in newtons (don't quote me on that i'm not a big physics guy) and then take that number and find how many of that unit are in a joule... actually that may all be wrong that's really more of an educated guess but it's the best i got... best thing to do is ignore joules and look for FPS that's more what matters.

fps = speed
joules = work done or energy expended.
It is comparable to measuring foot pounds.
1 joule = about 0.7 ft-lbs.
Joules are a very accurate system of measuring energy and that is why you will see it used with airguns but almost no place else. It measures the amount out put but cannot account for all the other variables that effect speed (like projectile mass or shape, barrel condition etc) Therefore it is a more accurate system. The problem is that almost nobody uses or understands it so unless you are going to use a conversion table it is useless.
