put a towel on the floor, and shut the door on it so that he can't scratch at the carpet..only the towel, or put down some sort of mat..make it so the towel or whatever is sticking out of both sides of the door..he might ruin a towel but it'll be cheaper then buying new carpet..

Lay down an extra chunk of small carpet that fits between the door and the floor. Hope this helps!!

My cat does that too (and she has a scratching post). We just gave up and let her in. We put everything away since she likes to swat things off our nightstands so now she just sleeps on my pillow.

Most cats like to sleep near you, so they will want to get in. I suggest that you let him in. I don't know what he'll get into, but he'll grow out of it.

Maybe tidy things up as best you can and let him in?
