Because people like to measure their goodness and goals as a from of accomplishment. Only God knows everything and He is the only one that is TRULY good, loving and pure. According to the Bible our righteousness is like filthy rags. I used to be very self righteous and thinking because I was a "good person" in some ways I should be blessed by God. I thank God for not giving me what I TRULY deserve. Thank you for posting and God bless you and keep you

Aren't you making that same assumption right now?
You are right, God know what is right and only he does, the Bible gives us the instructions, I say what I said because based on some of your questions, you come off as thinking yourself superior. I am a Christian and if you want to spread God's word and follow his commands, do like Jesus did, sit down with the sinners and love them, not condemn them! Jesus came to save the sinner, not the righteous. In case you wonder, no there is no one righteous enough to deserve Christ, but he loves us anyways and wants to save us.

Truthfully, what is "good" is defined by your philosophy (this is why studying philosophy helps if you're concerned about what's "good").
There are many acts most of us would call "evil" in the Bible. But if you consider anything the Bible tells you to do "good" (no matter how crazy") then fine- you'll always know what is "good".
But here's a thought- what if the Bible isn't the only guide to what can be "good"?

Wow, well possibly many feel GOD (Jesus) left 2000+ years ago and "good" reflects a different modern paradigm?
GOD is harder to feel in our overly worldly existence, so again "good" is stretched to the breaking point, like "lying" and "cheating" have been warped by today's stresses. (Keeping up appearances - that stupid movie that said greed is good, warped society for quite a few loops, remember? things like that.)

Because they want to do what they want to do and don't want to think it isn't what God wants. So they say God told me to do that!
Kind of like big brother, he did it!
So they make up stuff to justify what they do and then pick out scriptures that support their ideas.

Um, because God called Abraham "righteous" when he pimped his wife twice. If God is that confused about what constitutes good, I'll go with my gut.

I can only answer for myself and I know that my mind is limited and finite, whereas God is infinite and I trust in Him and His Word.
