My husband has a sore muscle (hamstring). We saw a specialist already and they prescribed him steroids..The pain has not gone away..How long does it usual last. He has another appointment with the specialist in one week for a followup. But he is in a lot of pain. It doesnt hurt when he is walking and standing but when he tries to lay down for bed his leg cramps up and his whole leg is hard as a rock.

he has taken a lot of pain medications the last option was steroids for 6 days. The doctors have taken x-rays and everything seems to be ok.

Depends what the injury is. Steroids or cortizone is a temporary fix and can have big side effects in the long term. If its just a muscle injury or spasm it should heal and roids would no longer be needed. But if it's in the tendon surgery may be an option to repair and live drug free.

Take him to an orthopedist. I strained my hamstring last year and I got taken to an orthopedist. Really all you can do is go to physical therapy for a hurt hamstring.
