It really doesn't matter if they like it or not. If you want a long haired dog you will have to keep it brushed and dematted. It will be a chore and an everyday thing.

As a groomer I have stripped several and on others just scissor cut. It all depended on what the owner wanted. And sometimes I have had to strip them cause they were so matted and I had no other choice.

Short versus long hair in these breeds is a matter of grooming. It actually takes quite a bit of effort to grow and maintain those long show coats, and the coats of pet dogs are generally clipped much shorter. Yes, they will shed, but these are little dogs, so you're not talking about a lot of hair. Just brush them regularly and feed a high-quality food.

Yes, of course.

If you cut it yourself, there are various lengths. I cut my yorkie pretty short in the summer, and he has that puppy look!

But with a white haired, white skinned dog...it's best to leave that fur a bit longer. Personally, like this time of year with my york, I cut his fur so it's the same length as his body is deep. I mean, I comb it all down, toward his belly. Then I cut it along that same belly line, so it doesn't hang lower, but just to the same line. It looks great!

Professional cuts are tooooo expensive, crazy and should be illegal what they charge! So get a few photos online of looks you like and do it yourself. At worst, it will grow back.

Of course you can, We have one, get it clipped in hot weather, Unless you are showing the dog keep it short, it takes a lot of grooming. But they do look just lovely in long coat. It's up to you.

You can cut it short, but why would you? If you are having matting problems, take it to a groomer.
