So my friend from work drove me home the other night because I had too much to drink and when I thanked her for the ride, I extended my hand for a shake but she told me that I'm a guy and she's a girl and I should hug her goodbye. I'm a fan of the handshake but don't mind hugging. Is it not normal for me to shake a women's hand. Should I always hug the girl?

No I think you were ok. It's more of an individual thing . Some would feel more comfortable shaking hands others with just a thank you and goodnight.Of course there are yet others who are a little more hands on. It really depends on the person , the circumstances and the level of familiarity. Just be yourself and try to feel out the situation as best you can.Nobody is perfect so don't worry too much. Maybe she just likes you ..... relax and have fun!!

I would just let her know you really appreciate her giving you the ride and that it was very much appreciated. If she hints around that she is interested in you then that's one thing but guy friends hugging there female friends is a normal thing as a friendship between friends. I hug my guy friends/they hug me and thank each other instead of shaking hands most of the time, it shows them i really appreciate what they have done and that they mean a lot to me as a friend. I would just consider her a friend and go with that.

It depends on what type of girl she is. Personally, I dont mind either one. If you're more comfortable with shaking peoples hand, then do it. If they want a hug, dammit then give them a hug. Don't look too deeply into this. After all, it could be a sign that she has feelings for you! (:

Depends on the girl. As a general rule any time a girl asks you for a hug, give it to her!

maybe she was islamic.. they dont shake hands becuase its agaisnt their religion..
