i have heard many prayers from christians in my short time on terra firma (22 revolutions around the sun by the the earth, to be exact), and i have heard many prayers that when i heard them i thought, "jesus has starving people in darfur, homeless in india, etc, why the heck would he even care to give you the time to hear about your want to have//feel/whatever??? "

i think it's time for chrisians to give jesus a vacation... and im proposing the week after his birthday.. the guy knows what's going on in the world, he doesn't need people to report back to him about every little detail in our life 52 weeks out of his year (and we all know our years are based upon him).. let him enjoy the holidays and watch the bowl games like we all do, and just let the man have a chance to relax.. doesn't he deserve that? i mean, i know all that he gave christians was an opportunity to spend eternity in heaven, but still?/?

Yes, He does. Only the prayers of the Righteous are heard. The prayers of the unrighteous fall upon deaf ears.

In a way, I think He does. Even when I was a very selfish person, I prayed. Asking for things I wanted, crying because I didn't have what I wanted. He was listening to my pettiness for sure and every once in awhile He did help me out. Not until I gave up, totally gave up my will, did He come into my life to stay. Don't worry He doesn't need a vacation, especially right now. There is a lot of preparations going on. We will all rest later, together :)

A vacation or rest is no longer needed by dead man 2500 + ago. Neither can a man made of plaster of Paris can watch a bowl game. He has ears that cannot hear, has lips that cannot speak, he has feet that even if you take out the nails off it , he still cannot walk. Pray to the real living God and then work on your prayers if you really want your prayers to be heard.

O Hearer of prayer, even to you people of all flesh will come.
-Psalms 65:2

This Hearer of Prayer is not Jesus, but his Father

Jesus was a man of prayer. He prayed on every occasion—when he was baptized (Luke 3:21); the whole night before choosing his 12 apostles (Luke 6:12, 13); and before his miraculous transfiguration on the mountain, while with the apostles Peter, John, and James. (Luke 9:28, 29) He was praying when one of the disciples asked him: “Teach us how to pray,” so he taught them the Lord’s Prayer (the “Our Father”). (Luke 11:1-4; Matthew 6:9-13) He prayed alone and at length early in the morning (Mark 1:35-39); toward evening, on a mountain, after dismissing his disciples (Mark 6:45, 46); together with his disciples and for his disciples. (Luke 22:32; John 17:1-26) Yes, prayer was an important part of Jesus’ life.

He prayed before performing miracles, for example, before resurrecting his friend Lazarus: “Father, I thank you that you have heard me. True, I knew that you always hear me; but on account of the crowd standing around I spoke, in order that they might believe that you sent me forth.” (John 11:41, 42) The certainty that his Father would answer that prayer indicates the strength of his faith. This link between prayer to God and faith in Him is evident from what Christ said to the disciples: “All the things you pray and ask for have faith that you have practically received.”—Mark 11:24.

If Jesus did not have faith, why did he pray to God? Christendom’s unscriptural teaching of the Trinity, that Jesus was both man and God at the same time, obscures the Bible’s message. It hinders people from understanding the Bible’s simplicity and power. Whom did the man Jesus invoke? Himself? Was he unaware that he was God? And if he was God and knew it, why did he pray?

Jesus’ prayers on the last day of his earthly life give us an even deeper insight into his firm faith in his heavenly Father. Manifesting hope and confident expectation, he requested: “So now you, Father, glorify me alongside yourself with the glory that I had alongside you before the world was.”—John 17:5.

Psalm 65:2 points out God, Jehovah, to be 'O Hearer of prayer'
Jesus said: “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.' (John 14:6). Therefore Jesus, only is the intercessor of prayer and only prayers made through him to his father, Jehovah, God. 'Consequently he is able also to save completely those who are approaching God through him, because he is always alive to plead for them.' (Hebrews 7:25).

The book of proverbs indicates that whilst prayers are heard, conditions must be met, by the one praying to follow God's teaching otherwise prayers may be displeasing.. "He that is turning his ear away from hearing the law—even his prayer is something detestable." (Proverbs 28:9)

"Jehovah is far away from the wicked ones, but the prayer of the righteous ones he hears." (Proverbs 15:29)

and also avoid repetitive prayers such as those from a prayer book (Matthew 6:5, 6) "When you pray, you must not be as the hypocrites; because they like to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the broad ways to be visible to men. . . . You, however, when you pray, go into your private room and, after shutting your door, pray to your Father who is in secret; then your Father who looks on in secret will repay you."

(from watchtower.org) At a time when the leaders of ancient Judah bore heavy guilt, Jehovah declared: "When you spread out your palms, I hide my eyes from you. Even though you make many prayers, I am not listening; with bloodshed your very hands have become filled."—Isaiah 1:1, 15.

In answer to "why the heck would he even care to give you the time to hear about your want to have//feel/whatever??? "
When a disciple asked Jesus how they should pray, he answered, "Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins, for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation." (Luke 11:3, 4). These are matters of everyday life which Jesus was encouraging them to pray about. In fact a letter to the Thessalonians commands "pray incessantly." (1 Thessalonians 5:17). Prayer is a gift that God has given everyone so that they may draw close to him. "The prayer of the upright ones is a pleasure to him."—Proverbs 15:8. suggesting that far from a burden to Jehovah, he delights in such practise, and therefore giving Jesus as the intercessor a holiday would be taking such delights away. Remember Psalm 62: 8 urges Trust in him at all times, O people. Before him pour out YOUR heart. God is a refuge for us. Se´lah.

Whilst yes there is lots of suffering around the world, which God permits it because He gave human's free will whether to choose his rule or that of the world and therefore he does not intervene. read http://www.watchtower.org/e/20030101/art... So whilst there is much to be resolved upon earth with respect to suffering, God still delights in hearing the prayers of righteous ones, because with them He can develop a relationship and help them to keep on living righteously..

So yes there is a spam filter, but that's no reason to stop praying, especially if you are praying for wisdom and righteousness, because Jesus urged it and Jehovah delights in it.

yes to some degree he would have a spam filter. it would be nice for him to have a vacation but if he did the world would fall apart. although we do have "starving people in darfur, homeless in india, etc." god is omnipresent and he wants to be there for us he wants us to confide in him, talk with him, he wants to comfort us. he wants to be our best friend. how can anyone be your best friend if you don't talk to them except about the big stuff (hunger, homelessness, disaster,...)??
