Hello!
My cat got ringworm FROM HIS VET'S CLINIC. Ridiculous but thats true. He got ointment called Tri-Otic and we apply it on his ear twice a day. He also got 2 shots against ringworm. His ear is visibly ok but now he got it on his other ear and above his eye, coz he is rubbing the medicine and the infection all over his face and ears.
I am fed up with this ringworm problem
Please tell me how to clean the environment at home-I dont mind doing it every day, and tell from your own experience how to treat this nasty ringworm infection and how long did it take to cure your pet.
Thank you so much.

There is a ringworm vaccine made by Fort Dodge called Fel-O-Vax® MC-K. This vaccine must be given to health cats over 4 months of age, and is a course of 3 injections. This vaccine is only effective for M. Canis. After an initial dose is administered a second dose is given 12-16 days later. A third dose is given 26-30 days after the second dose.

First of all, there are no shots I know of that treat ringworm. Ask your vet what the name of the shots were.

Your kitty may actually require oral medication to treat this condition, as well as baths/dips with a medicated dip a couple of times a week if this truyly is ringworm. Since the treatment he is getting right now does not appear to be working to you, ask your vet about an oral antifungal. If you still have difficulty getting the infection cleared, you may want to ask your vet for a referral to a veterinary dermatologist for a second opinion.

there is an oral liquid medication called 'sporonox' that is very expensive, but excellent in treating ringworm. if you use that, it can take anywhere from 2-4 weeks to clear up. you can also use a special lyme dip on the cat once weekly (this stuff smells TERRIBLE though, like rotten eggs). ringworm is easily spread, so it would be best to confine the cat to one area. you might want to invest in a large dog crate/kennel and set the cat up in there until he's done with treatment. ringworm can be spread on any porous surface as well as direct contact, so check to make sure that you don't have it yourself. i would also bleach his bedding daily.

You can use grapefruit seed extract mixed with water in a spray bottle to clean contact areas around the house. Think of it as bleach with no side effects. A solution of GSE and water can also be applied directly to your cat without the side effects of the drugs. Here is a link for more info. http://www.nutriteam.com/pets.htm

You should also bolster his imune system with a feline vitamin. Extra A, C and E will make a huge difference with skin conditions. Fighting this from both inside and outside will yield the fastest results.

There are many natural products to treat ringworm that are easier on your cat that a battery of drugs. Here is another link to a vet's site where I have gotten useful info on skin problems. http://www.belfield.com/article6.html

Amazon is a great place to get books on cat health. Dr. Hamilton's book Homepathic Care for Cats and Dogs is a must read. This should be the link. http://www.amazon.com/Homeopathic-Care-Cats-Dogs-Animals/dp/155643295X/sr=1-1/qid=1171917519/ref=sr_1_1/104-8483050-1274346?ie=UTF8&s=books

Good luck! Been there, done that.

Ask your vet about any treatments, and be carefull...you can get ringworm as well. It happened to my friend and she had to use the ointment too.

It's completely gone in 4 weeks if you don't scrub at the areas and spread the spores further. When I was treating mine he never gave it to any of the other cats, or to my sig. other. I did, however, get one spot on my leg from him. Sunlight kills the spores on fabric, so does washing them in hot water. If you can wash the bedding it'll help.
