When does your caterer need the final head count for the reception? I would then give myself AT LEAST 2 weeks before that date, because you (or someone else) are going to have to call all those who haven't RSVPed by that date. So, assuming your caterer needs the final head count 3 days prior to the wedding, 3 weeks is a pretty good time frame. You'll also need the time to do place cards and favors, if you're doing them. Good luck!

You can give them all the time in the world. You will still have to have someone get on the phone and find out from those who will not return the card.
Some will say yes & not show. Others will say they can't make it & do show up....with a guest! You should be able to give your caterer a final count the week of the wedding. But it won't ring true.
Just the nature of the beast.

Well most invitations are sent out 1-2 months before the wedding so I would ask that people RSVP at least 2-3 weeks before the wedding!

the ideal time frame for an rsvp is about 6 weeks.
that is what i have given my guest, though i expect i will still be chasing up the odd one or 2 the week of the wedding.

As a general rule, 6 weeks is sufficient. However, if you're having a summer wedding I suggest 8 weeks as your guests may be planning their summer vacations.

Three weeks is fine. That will allow you time to get on the phone and call all those dead beats that think RSPVing in above them. Be prepared for some really off the wall excuses as to why they didn't send theirs.

3 weeks is perfect. That's what I did. Any longer than that and I think that people would forget to send the response back.
