My great great grand father came to united states in 1845 from Ireland.
I checked out Ellis island to see if he came through there,well Ellis
island did open untile 1892, so where did the immigrants come
through back then ? Can any one help me out on this.

Ellis Island was set up to handle the ever-increasing flow of immigrants; before that time, immigrants came to whatever port in the US they could get passage to. From Ireland, the most likely landing spot would have been New York; their arrivals were just not controlled as they were at Ellis Island.

Check the records in Philadelphia. Most of the early Irish and Scottish migration came Philly before they opened Ellis Island.
