Are you from a country other then the USA?
Marshmallows are 1/2 inch to 1.5 inch spongy, soft, slightly sweet candies. They taste like foamy pillows. Hard to describe. They are made with egg whites and sugar and corn syrup. Very very light and airy.

We eat them out of the bag, or we mix them into gelatin salads, or we put them in sweet casseroles, or we melt them to make confections. It is available as a thick white sauce for ice cream.

Many ice cream companies put marshmallow creme, or marshmallow fluff as we americans call it, into their ice cream to create a white, sweet ripple of marshmallow throughout the ice cream. This is usually done in chocolate ice cream.

Any candy, cake or ice cream called "rocky road" is usually made of chocolate with marshmallows or marshmallow fluff and peanuts added.

You can make marshmallows at home, but it is easier to buy a bag at the grocery.
