I think a lot of people cuss because they don't know how to express themselves in another way.

Sometimes its the way they were raised. Or its to be cool. Sometimes its one of those things that you say once and then it becomes habit. Or people say it when they get pissed off. It all depends. People have different reasons for doing it. Some parents teach their kids or grandkids to cuss because they think it is funny.

For me it's like an impulse. I say them when I'm really upset or if I get hurt. I guess also, lack of vocabulary. I hear people say curse words (including me) when they don't have anything else better to say. It is hard trying to quit using them though. I found that if I replace them with a different word it helps out a lot.

Many, but not all, people cuss because they lack the vocabulary to express themselves in other words.

It used to be that one used "blue language" to shock those who heard them. However, cursing is now so prevalent that the shock value is gone.
It is usually an indication that the speaker is unable to express himself properly;he has a limited vocabulary, and is unable to find the words that would actually explain what he wants to say.
In any case, it is done through ignorance and laziness

Makes them feel important. Maybe they think they are leaving off steam.Glad you are trying to quite. If you can control the tongue it will really make you appear much more intelligent.

I've seen people cuss a lot when they feel threatened. It makes you seem edgier, I guess.

I dont have a problem with cussing. I dont cuss, but they are just words that have been given an attatched meaning. really tho ... how os it possible to "F-off" ? :S

It makes them think that they are cool, but honestly, I don't think it does.
