I'm thinking of joining the Army but dont want to be directly part of the combat. If you have a non-combat MOS can the Army move you into the infantry?

I"m sorry I spent twenty years in the army in personnel about as far away as combat can be. But do you know that when patriots ans scuds are going through the air. Neither one of them stop to ask me if I was combat soldier. Instead the decided to blow up right above my head. Was I near the front lines no, but guess what I was near the airport where the new troops were coming in, and I was the one in-processing those folks, Gosh, everyone in the military plays a role in combat even the lonely personnel units because with us no people to fight with, transport ion units guess they can't walk everywhere. unit that supply water and sanitation guess we can't do with them either. SO no Sorry, Just remember we are all Army down to the last person,

If you join the Army as a medic, or an engineer, or something of that nature and you are a male. You will probably be going to an infantry unit. Just go sit in a major airport and ask some of the Soldiers who walk by. They will tell you.

Yes. Transportation units, supply, medical, dental, cooks, communications, and others. If you don't want to be "up front" during this war then you should reconsider what branch of service you are joining. They pretty have have the same programs and do have the same benefits and pay scale. You may want to consider the Navy or Air Force. If you go Army or Marines they ARE the combat branches period and you will go to war eventually. Some people have gone right out of AIT.

If you want to lesson your odds of being shot at directly join the Navy, otherwise you can just plan on being shot at. I was an 88M10 in the army, we had one of the shortest life expectancy's in the the field and we were just truck drivers. During Desert Storm I can't think of a day that bullets were not bouncing off my truck or through it.

Since there is no FRONT LINE in Iraq or Afghanistan, the whole COUNTRY is a combat zone. Even the typists can get involved in combat.

Yes they get to see movies like 'Sands of Iwo Jima","The Longest Day" and the " Battle Of the Bulge".If it is Saturday they watch "Patton".
I suggest very strongly you join the "Air Force pukes'.
