I have done various research on Kabbalah and have read the following:
Sefer Yetzirah (Book of Creation)
Bahir (Book of Illumination)

I only know of one other which is the largest I have yet to read called the Zohar. However in an overview book simply entitled Kabbalah by Gershom Scholem which goes on to detail important concepts I have not found in the above books. Please let me know if your familiar with true early writtings. I am guessing the Talmud and Zohar but maybe more?

The kabbalah is not meant to be learned without deep roots in contemporary Orthodox Judaism, with Chassidic Judaism as well, it's like taking a particle accelerator, pressing buttons randomly, and saying "Look at me, I am a physicist!!" with no training, if you rush to the Kabbalah without the other teaching...

The Bnei Baruch study group offers free video lessons on Kabbalah. Video lessons are also archived so you can catch up or watch at your own pace. They have lessons on the principles of Kabbalah and the technical aspects of Kabbalah. If you are going to understand any of the above mentioned texts, you need to take this course first. Also, you will want to read the introduction and preface to the Zohar and the introduction to and the Talmud Eser Sefirot. You cannot simply read the early materials and understand it all. Also, Bnei Baruch is for serious Kabbalah students. If you only want knowledge or scholarly understanding, I would suggest Daniel C. Matt's translation of the Zohar.
