Hey guys.

My gf suffers with chronic migraine...

She's having a bad one at the minute... has anyone any ideas how we can ease this please? Her neurologist has told her to have no painkillers...

Thanks for reading this

Thanks for your reply, but like I said she's been told not to take painkillers by her neurologist. He's also told her to not drink coffee (and coke) and also a few other things. The chronic migraines she gets last around 2 weeks, with her not being able to work/drive etc.

It's only started today so we've been unable to contact the neurologist just yet.

I will try the cold flannel on her neck though

Cheers

Please everyone understand that this isnt your average headache/migraine its a chronic one... I dont wanna be giving her something that will make it worse.

Thanks.

Pain killers and tylenol are just bandaids and the migraine will come back in a few days if you use those methods. Something about Advil actually prevents what they call relapsed migraines. I also find it calming if I put dark heavy blankets over the windows, turn off all sounds and use a heating pad on the back of the neck which helps get blood pumping by opening up the muscles that contract the blood vessel. Headaches are normally from a tightening of an blood vessel. Drink some warm cafeine free tea with some honey. Caffeine makes headaches worse.

P.S. Has she inquired through her doctor about medication for epileptic seizures? My neighbor and I have massive migraines. Mine only last about 2 days tops but now that I have them under control with this epileptic seizure medication, if I do the regimen I gave you, they are gone with a couple hours. This just may be an option. Also, I would make a suggestion that she may have a pinched nerve in her c spine. Go to a chiropractor that has the Pro Adjuster and it will show right away what type of nerves are being pinched. They will usually give a free consult so you can see, if they are a good one. The one I see has also lowered my migraines from several a month to only getting them about once every couple months now and getting fewer as time goes on. Also, you could try to find someone in your area that has a machine called the DRX9000. It does wonders!!!

I am truly sorry for her discomfort as I know these are truly debilitating and painful. I really hope she finds relief soon. Sounds to me like they are severe enough that if nothing works she should consider a disability option if this affects her keeping employment. Best of luck to you both.

Some people have migraines because of this:

it's easily fixed in an outpatient procedure.

Hi when I get them, I find that a cool facecloth on the back of my neck helps.

I also find that regular (every 2-3 wks) massage helps

& I find that when I need to get rid of them right away--I take 2 (of my painkillers) & then drink a cup of strong coffee--it usually helps.

I also find the strong coffee works great if its gulped (so mix with milk if it doesn' bother her or even ice water to cool it down).

The caffeine helps alleviate the pain.
