Technically speaking, as far as weight control goes, no. Unless you have a health problem or are taking certain medications, "calories eaten versus calories burned" is generally all that matters.

However, proper nutrition is vital to your overall health, which is far more important than just a number on the scale. And if you're like me and you love to eat, you can afford more food in your "caloric budget" when it's high-quality and good for you, because things like that are usually much lower in calories per serving.

Natural, real foods that are high in fiber and protein--veggies, oatmeal, LEAN meat, et cetera--will fill you up and keep you full longer than a fast-food value meal or a couple of doughnuts, plus you'll feel much, much better in the long run.

I know it might seem like a pain, but studying nutrition and learning to cook tasty, healthful meals is one of the best things you can do for yourself. There are lots of great recipes out there, and most of the cooking websites even list the nutritional info for you now. The good stuff doesn't have to be boring!

the sources of calories definetly matters.

the foods that we eat have a direct effect on the endocrine system and the endocrine system controls human biological functions. it is impossible for the body to function at optimum levels with out sufficient intake of certain nutrients. this is why the importance of a balanced diet is always stressed.

You should ideally be eating a balanced diet. So yes it does matter where your calories come from. If you eat crap all the time, you may be thin but your arteries will be clogging up with cholesterol etc also you'll also get really bad skin from eating crap.

well no, but I do care since its what is bundled up with the calories, like

for example- I could easily live off the calories in soda for the rest of my life, but I also like the protein that comes with the calories in meats

It does matter because you need the nutrients at well as the calories. If it is empty calories then your body isn't gaining anything it needs.

you got it. You can eat a 600 calorie candy bar or you can eat a healthy meal with the same number of calories and you will be fine as long as you exercise and burn them off so you don't gain weight
