i don't know how to start my answer coz u really confused me...R U KIDDING???
back to the Q......the nikon D2Xs is a pro-leve DSLR camera.....even the pro-photographers(who makes their living from their shots) may think twice before going with it ....it's price might reach 4500$ for the body only ((what about lenses and filters .....an external flash (it has no built in flash)..a respectable strong tripod to carry this heavy camera(it's weight 1150g-2.535 pounds-40.6oz)...))....i think we talk about something between 6000-7000$.
u said that money is not a problem but u didn't mention how much mony which is not important for u((what's ur limit ???coz u have to have one)).
if u r coming from the point and shoot ((digicams ))world ...or even the 34mm film SLRs ...i have to advice u to stay away from the pro-level DSLRs .... they need someone professional to use one of them appropriatly ((i apologize if u r a pro-photographer coz u didn't mention that)) i think that reading ur question made me immeaditly imagine that u r new to photography ....ok enough talking i think u got the idea...right?
by the way i have no comment on the panasonic lumix coz it don't worth it((i'm not saying it's bad..nooooooo.. it's a good camera)) but when talking about nikon or canon SLR cameras and lenses there's no place to say panasonic..ok)).
now ...what do u know about sensors ((CMOS,CCD, and the live MOS(NMOS)..)) i think u have to do more researchs to c the different urself.
((i really hate long answers )) but it's an advice ....go with canon rebel xti((eos 400d)) ,,rebel xt((eos 350d)),,nikon d80,,or even the sony alpha.......these cameras r all mid-level DSLRs and will certainly suit u((not very expensive and light weight with full features and perfect results )).
good luck

Lecia makes the best lenses I think in the world. Have you ever used a SLR before? If you havent, neither camera is right for you. This is a pretty odd comparison... L1 vs the D2Xs. I personally would get the D2Xs over the L1 without a dought but Canon is also a contender here too. Dude have you ever used a Nikon camera? Their sensors are amazing, just like Canon sensors.
I can tell you have never used an SLR or practice with one before. If you have you would have never asked this question. One your comparing basically a Massirati to a Lexus. Their both good but the Massirati is better. The Massirati being Nikon. Two. You dont have any lenses I can tell because if you had some before you would go in the same line of cameras. Personally think that you should get the 30D from Canon or the Nikon D80 and upgrade from there because you have to learn lots of controls and the system on a professional SLR. Everything is manuel on the D2Xs so if you do not know how to use it properly, your pictures are going to suck.
My advice: Canon 30D or Nikon D80 to learn how ot use a SLR and build up from there.

I seriously think you should spend a lot more time researching your choices. There's no such thing as "best SLR". Canon and Nikon are constantly leapfrogging each other in features, megapixels, etc, so whatever you buy today will be bested by something else in a few months. If money is no object, buy a Leica, although I'm sure as soon as you see their prices, you might back down on that claim.
Don't get so hung up on megapixels. 7.5 mp will make nice 11X17 prints. CMOS has pretty well caught up with CCD, and I'm not sure what benefit "live" MOS is over CMOS.
Your questions suggest that you're relatively new to photography, so why not go for something a bit lower, like an XTi or D80? They're both nice cameras, and a good camera store will give you decent credit when you decide to trade up. You can transfer the lenses to the new camera so long as you stay with the same manufacturer (or in the same group of lens mounts.)
I'd suggest going to a camera store and talking to a salesperson who can help you make a choice. Don't sweat the specs. At the price range you're looking at, anything you buy will be good.

I personally would go for the Nikon D2Xs they will take older Nikkor AI, AIS manual focus lenses along with the newer AF lenses They also have multiple exposure capability. About Lumix lenses are the best I do not believe it. If some bozo says more pros use Canon don't believe that it's BS.

Forget the lightweight, if you really want the best then I think a Hasselblad might fit the bill. 4x5 inch sensor, quite better then full frame indeed. You just need a spare $50.000 for a decent set up. I guess that is not an issue right?
