I live in Georgia and I really want to fly planes. Also, if anyone knows: how much does being a pilot pay a year?

For a Private license figure between 6-8K, also the money only flows one way as a pilot until you have your IFR, Commercia, CFII, and ATP ratings,
they are all very expensive and require a lot of dedication and hard work to achieve.

It really is cheaper to go to med school that to become an airline pilot.
However Its very rewarding and life changing becoming a pilot. Even a private pilot.
here is some advice, Dont ever choose a profession based on the money, you have to love what you do, when you wake up in the morning and can't wait to get to work, you are a very rich person, ( and im not talking about money )

I am a pilot montor thru AOPA's project pilot so if you want to get your wings, shoot me an email, and I will be happy to get you started on your way, and maybe even some time in my bird

Best of luck

You should plan on spending between $5800 and $7000 for your private pilot rating. It really depends upon you and how much you are dedicated to flying. The FAA does require you to have a certain amount of flight time and ground instruction, but most need a little more time to get the rating.
If you need assistance on paying there are organizations like Pilot Finance that are there to help with paying, it is something to look into.

As far as what a pilot makes a year - that all depends on what you end up flying, if you are a fight instructor not much but if you are flying a large corporate aircraft is could be 120,000/year.

Hope this helps and good luck, if you choosing flying its a great career choice!

Seems like you are intersted in getting a commercial flying job... the cost of getting certified to fly for an airline at a college which i highly recommend is in the $70,000 range... however you can learn at your local airport for quite a bit less... they wont set you up with potential employers however... once you are certified you are probobly going to get a job with a regional carrier... this is how almost all pilots start out if they didnt go through the military... You will be making in the mid 20,000s almost the poverty level for the first year or two then things start getting better, its all based on salary but if your are LUCKY and i mean LUCKY enough to fly for a legacy carrier (American, Northwest, Delta, United...) you can make well over 100,000 a year after about 10 years of seniority go by.

It is possible to get your certificate for around $1,200. It is not the mainstream method, but is just as good (I think better) than going to some flying school and renting. If you can afford to buy a used car, either with cash or on credit, the system works quite well. Several new pilots have followed my method and are pleased. Before anyone gets the idea I'm selling something, wrong answer. My information is freely given to anyone who asks. I've been in the aviation business and a pilot for more than 4 decades and thoroughly enjoy helping people who want to become pilots.

It depends on the plane, and where you are, but generally $3,000 to $6,000 for a private license, depending also on how long you take to get it (very quickly, or drag it out as finances require).

There's more than one kind of license though - you'll probably be wanting to be instrument rated, then get a commercial license, then get qualified for larger planes, etc. So $5k might get you a license to fly a small Cessna, but not a 747.

Pilots don't pay what they used to, and there are a lot of unemployed commercial pilots out there - plus you have to be in good health, etc. , pass medical exams, and so forth.
