At 62 years old and living alone, I feel very qualified to answer this question but I also have dogs and birds. Do you think that disqualifies me? I think for most older people the best thing about cats is that they don't have to be walked as the dogs do. They poo in the litter box, you scoop it into the toilet and it's taken care of. Although I am retired by chronic illness, I'm still able to walk the dogs but it sure is inconvenient in Kansas in the winter. No breaks because I don't like the weather unless I want to be cleaning up a mess on the carpet. My dogs are elderly and I don't think I'll replace them when they do and then I'll be one of those weird old ladies with three cats. I also feed some stray cats that live in my neighborhood and allow them into my garage in harsh weather. I talk to my animals like they are kids so they are all pretty vocal back and I really enjoy that. I also have three cockatiels and they also talk to me but I won't replace them either. All of these animals are rescues except for the Maltese dog who rules this house. Rescues appreciate having a home but dogs who have never been anything but spoiled certainly do not. She thinks she is royalty and deserves our full attention at all times, a true princess mentality. Now, back to being old and weird, I can't imagine why you would think that giving and receiving love from any source is weird. While I talk on the phone to family and friends daily, I can often go several days w/o seeing anyone in the flesh other than the mailman and he is a bit busy to chat. Maybe you can stop to talk to the old lady you think is weird and find that she is very interesting. I've had an affinity for older people all my life and they have such a storehouse of wisdom that they could share with you. I would tell you that we are the same people inside but that isn't true. I'm a much kinder and smarter person than I was when I was young, not nearly so self absorbed. I care a lot more for other people and understand why they have problems and how to fix a lot of them. Believe it or not, some day you will laugh as you remember that you even asked this question and I hope you have a lot of cats in your life to make you happy.

Cats offer much needed companionship and also need little looking after, would you want to spend the rest of your life completly isolated in your house? Pets are the next best thing to humans, and for some they are better than humans.

They also don't need to be told to speak up or not to mumble and don't answer back :P

Maybe it's the cats who are obsessed with old lonely people! Did you ever think of that?

After an afternoon at puppy clever with 0 adoptions;this would be a great question! you recognize you're smitten via cats while your college's mascot is a cat.(relatively:college of Kentucky Wildcats.). you recognize you're smitten via cats:once you sense responsible approximately going out on Saturday evening once you need to be spending high quality time with your cats. you recognize you're smitten via cats once you're a single male and the loopy cat lady is your dream date.

because cats keep them company and dogs would jump all around and fish, they just swim around in a fish bowl, and birds are too noisy and pecks,bunnies...well bunnies would be OK, and old people only like gentle little animals they can hold and talk to and go places with them, that's why they like cats...and that was a good question

because cats are sweet and give lots of love. if I where old and lonley id have cats to its somthing to keep you company and to love you plus with older people when they have a cat it gives them a feeliing of being wanted and something needs them not them needing someone elese.
