It doesn't really hurt, I have both ears pierced this way. Make sure you rotate and clean the area daily though. I also have a double piercing with a barbell running through the top of my right top ear lobe. Use good jewelry made of surgical steel until the piercing takes, you will be just fine.

I have three piercings in each ear, all on the lobe except for one in the upper cartilage. I don't get any negative feedback from employers or others. I don't recall the cartilage piercing hurting too much (it was done many years ago), and I'm pretty sensitive. Keep in mind your sleeping position as well as objects you place against your ear... like phones. It will be tender for a little while.

All piercings hurt, but how bad it will hurt depends on your tolerance to pain. Usually cartilage piercings are some of the more painful piercings to get done and they do take a while to heal. You're going to feel something and your ear will be very sore/tender to the touch for at least a few days, but can last as long as a month for some people.
If you get it done, please have a professional pierce you with proper tools and jewelry, don't get it done at Claire's or where ever with those awful piercing guns.

I don't think 3 piercing in one ear looks bad, but that my opinion as a piercing junkie and professional piercer. She's a mother and that's just how most mothers are. My mom was the same way when I started to get more piercings and she's learned to live with it since it was my money and in the long run I get to deal with whatever consequences are caused by my choices.
Oh, never clean your piercing with alcohol. Its overly harsh and while it can help some people with healing more often than not it dries out piercing and can cause irritation and slow healing. Always use Dial (or Satin) soap and warm water, rinsing well and use sea salt soaks! They do wonders for all piercings.

The actual piercing isn't too bad but be careful because it can get infected very easily. I had mine for a year and a half and then one morning I woke up and my ear was throbbing. I guess I slept on it wrong and it got all swollen around the stud. I actually had to go to the emergency room and get it lanced to relieve the pressure. I never put the earring back in. Also, one of my friends in high school got it done and it got infected. She actually had to have it cut out of her ear. Now her ear is shaped wierd. True story.

cartilege doesnt really hurt.. but i think i have a high pain threshold, because its rare for a piercing to hurt. and i dont think 3 looks bad.. i have 2 in each lobe, (including gauges) and i have my rook done and i love it..
P.s.. "Ash!", 3 is not tacky. you're just a prude.
here is a link for the pic of my right ear. one lobe piercing, one 8 guage second lobe piercing, and rook.

its not painful at all, and 3 would look fine. i have three ... and i hope mine look fine, i have my lobes done twice and my tragus. just make sure you go to a professional place and never let anyone pierce your cartilage with a gun, only with a needle. a gun can shatter your cartilage and leave your ear deformed.

It's not painful when you actually get it pierced, but if you sleep on that ear, or agitate the piercing while brushing ur hair and such - HURTS LIKE CRAZY!!!! also, u HAVE to rotate it and clean it WELL every single day...a few of my friends didnt, and all theirs got infected! but once it heals, it's awesome! :)
as for 3 in one ear? depends what you wear in em...if they're nice n neat studs, then no, it shouldnt look bad at all! :)

My friend had it done and said it didn't hurt too badly. If you didn't think that the first 2 hurt, then it won't hurt too much then, but will probably hurt more. I think that three in one ear looks fine.
