There's an Altofts on the fringes of Wakefield...and a Burmantofts which is also in West Yorks'

not quite the answer you require but 'toft' comes from the Old Norse language and means Homestead.

there are several places actually just called 'Toft'

There is a street in my town called Tofts Crescent but don't know what it means.
