It starts a week before my period and then stops a few days after my period stops. What causes this and is there anything I can do to prevent it?

BELLE,
THIS IS NOT UNUSUAL IN SOME GIRLS.
THE REASON IS DUE TO THE LEVELS OF HORMONES ASSOCIATED WITH THE MENSTRUAL CYCLE.
AS FAR AS DOING SOMETHING ABOUT IT SPEAK WITH YOUR OB/GYN TO SEE IF YOU SHOULD TAKE SOMETHING.

Dr. Albert is correct, but during this period it is even more important that you keep your teeth CLEAN. The bleeding gums are in response to germs that live on your teeth. If there are no germs, there can be no response. Nobody - not even me - can get to absolutely zero germs, but doing the best job you can will improve the situation.

you have Gingivitis (an infection/inflammation of the gums). you will choose an antibiotic, good mouthwash to boot as heat salt water rinses, initiate flossing and use a gentle toothbrush. circulate to the dentist and get checked formerly you develop an infection alongside the bone and initiate off loosing the teeth. Antibiotic, Listerine or Hydrogen Peroxide, and good dental hygiene.

This can be anemia. You should have your blood analyzed for red blood cells and platelets. There might be an iron deficiency in your diet.

It sounds like some inflammation so I'd just take some ibuprofen.

.I am not sure but would suspect a dietary deficiency. I would suggest a multiple vitamin with minerals.
