Well with what is going on now, I would have to say Green Berets, hands down. Then it would be the Marines. Then Navy Seals. Why do you ask?

Primary ground force as in first on the ground, I'd say the Army and the Marines. The Green Beret, Delta Force, Seals, just to name a few, are special forces units and while they may be the first on the ground they aren't the primary ground force. They mostly conduct covert operations.

The army is the biggest ground combat force we have then the marines, the green berets are a unit in the army that takes on small missions that need their specialty skills. The seals are also like the berets but most of the time they operate near the ocean and rivers that lead to the oceans and seas. they take on very dangerous and stealthy missions.

The Marines are the tip of the spear, they are designed to be first in, to seize an objective and to hold it in order to give the Army (which has much more muscle) time to get into the fight. Marines are too lightly armed and supplied to sustain combat operations for a long time without support.
The Seals are spec op...they do specific jobs (mostly covert jobs, recon, intelligence, mine clearing, etc). If they get in a fight they have usually screwed up by the numbers since they usually do not want anybody to know they've been there.
The Green Berets are also spec op......but they have more extensive training in working with indigenous peoples, ambushes, disrupting enemy operations, and sustained behind the ops...
You forgot Rangers and Delta Force.......and Air Force Spec Ops.
