I was hoping to find something modest while I am looking for work in that part of the country.

I live in Burbank and pay $1350/mo for a 2 bedroom apt. in a complex without a pool, weight room etc. You probably won't find a 1 bedroom under $1000. A cheaper alternative is renting in North Hollywood or further west in the San Fernando Valley. Burbank and Glendale are nice but expensive. Although, plenty of people are looking for roommates in this area. Hit up craigslist.com.

I would need your defination of "affordable."

Burbank and Glendale are filthy with apartments, but I think then tend to run higher than the rest of the valley.

I suggest trolling Craigslist like crazy.

There are actually one bedroom apts. available in Glendale for just under $1000.00 a month. You might be able to find a few in Burbank as well. Try the J.P. Allen Co. in Glendale, they own loads of apt complexes there.
