For some strange reason i don't think this is going to be the snooze fest that everyone thinks it will be. I'm not saying that it's going to be Hagler-Hearns, but i think it could be a good fight because these guys are not as fast and slick as they used to be and Winky has been getting hit a little more than usual. Winky showed in the Taylor fight that he can be in an exicitng match and he wants to prove that he is the best pound for pound fighter out there, so i think you'll see a more aggressive Winky against Bernard. And Bernard knows that Winky doesn't have a lot of power and he can't afford to get way behind early like he did against Taylor because of Wright's good defense so i think he'll go right at Winky as well. I think he fell behind early against Jermain because he respected Jermain's power, he won't respect Winky's though. With the fight being fought at 170, i'm interested to see how both guys look at that weight. I'm picking Hopkins in a close, competitive fight that may surprise a lot of people on how good it is.

You hit the nail right on the head. Winky hasn't had a knockout in 5 years and Bernard never had one punch knockout power. Winky hates to be the aggressor and Bernard can't be the aggressor. Even when Bernard fought a much smaller De La Hoya he hardly pressed the action and Winky never presses the action.
This fight will go down as one of the most boring fights in history. Winky is known for keeping his hands held high in front of his face and countering, he's brilliant at it.
Pretty much all of Hopkins fights are boring, he's tried to to solidify his career by calling out smaller fighters, De La Hoya and Trinidad and even then he really didn't press the action. The only time he did step up to the plate and fought anyone near his prime Jones once and Taylor twice, he lost. Hopkins doesn't start fighting until after the sixth round but by that time most fans turn the channel and go onto watching something else.
Rosie O'Donnell has a better chance of making the cover of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue than this fight does being exciting.
Thanks for another good question.

A 12 round snoozer, in my opinion. The fact that this very fight was listed on a question here as one of the potential fights of the years should tell you how overrated these two are.
In his last fight, Hopkins looked decent at 175 but how will moving down affect him at 42. It remains to be seen how much Hopkins will have to strain himself down to 168. With hard training, Winky doesn't really have this problem.
I look for Bernard to be really aggressive in this fight because Winky doesn't have a lot of power to get Bernard's respect. Hopkins does well against southpaws, but he's never fought one as good defensively as Wright is. Winky won't go looking for Hopkins, but I think will seek to encamp himself in the centre of the ring, and shoot out accurate shots at Hopkins. In against Winky, Hopkins will look to actually try and box in an entertaining manner for once, and press forward, and move in and out to throw shots if Winky controls Ring centre, and therefore risking being countered more often than he would like by Winky. This is a fight between two highly skilled, intelligent fighters so the fighter that's disciplined enough to stick to the game plan will win this fight. Both fighters can take a good punch and neither has devastating KO power so it will go the distance. I think Winky wins a split decision in a close tactical battle. I am scoring this one 7 rounds to 5 in favour of Winky. Sorry, Bernard fans.

It has all the ingredients to be one of the most boring fights ever. Two counterpunchers who don't have a lot of knockout power. One is a slow starter (Hopkins), and one is basically a defensive fighter (Wright) and neither man gets hit all that much and both have good chins, so even if one of them happens to land a solid shot, it probably wouldn't do much damage anyway. I pick Winky to win a dreadful unanimous decision based on being the younger, busier, fighter, but this fight surely won't be getting any fight of the year votes any time soon.

As much as I respect Hopkins for being a winner and technically sound fighter, and WInky being my hometown guy, and respecting him for the same reasons as Hopkins, I believe this is going to be a 12 round snore fest, slow paced, "overly" tactical fight.
As far as the result I gotta go with the Tampa/St. Pete guy, in a 12 round unanimous decision, that will finally make B Hop seriously consider retirement.

Hopkins/Wright might desire to be a known broadcast on HBO no longer a PPV combat. After meting out wads of money at here pay in line with perspectives fights De l. a. Hoya/Mayweather, Liddell/Jackson, Ibragimov/Briggs this weekend and Cotto/Judah next weekend my fiance might kill me if i bought Hopkins/Wright. I' going to spend over $2 hundred on boxing/UFC pay in line with perspectives in a month. i'm no longer giving HBO yet another $50 for a combat that is going to be a counter punch snooze fest. enable me enable you already know the way it is going to end.......Neither fighter would be KOd or ever heavily harm, it is going to likely be a run of the mill 12 rounds and Winky would be robbed on the score enjoying cards back basically like the Vargas and Taylor fights.

You guys and the rest of the world seem to be blind winky can't really punch but he is always comming forward behind the crazy Jab and right hook to the body look for him to out work a 42 year old hopkins. I wish people would stop saying winky doesn't press the action. He is not a defensive fighter he comes forward with his hands up and bangs.

this will probably be a boring 12-rounder...wright is a better fighter now because hopkins is on like his 47th unretirement, so i'll go with wright 12 rounds unanimous

im leaning towards it being boring, if this fight was made a couple of years ago i would be interested but hopkins rarely throws punches now and wright just covers up and jabs.
