I think it is B as well because you need a coma after said. I know it is not C because of it lacks a comma after said.

A
A comma is needed after "over" because "after the play was over," is an introductory clause. Another comma is needed after "said" because that is the way the speaker of a direct quotation is shown. The only time the second comma would not apply is if it was written "she said that it was boring" in which case it is not a direct quote, so neither the comma nor the quotation marks would have been needed.

Definitely (a) is punctuated correctly!
If you are speaking correctly, the pause will be where the punctuation should be.
Grammar comes naturally if you would let the flow of language takes it's natural course. Never try to root learn grammar or you'll would be in for trouble understanding grammar and not master the spoken and written English language.

Definitely not C or D, I vote for B, but personally I think it's a horribly punctuated sentence to begin with. It should read :

After seeing the play, she said it was boring.

I think it's A. A comma goes where there's a natural pause in the sentence. They're also two separate clauses.

"After the play was over" "she said, "It was boring ""

It's A. The part "after the play was over" is an apositive. (Say it out loud: can you hear a natural pause between over and she? )And you always use a comma before introducing a quotation.

The candidate said, “Actions speak louder than words.”
“Talking of axes,” said the Duchess, “chop off her head.”

Which one of the sentences fits this rule?
