Since I have a laptop hp pavilion dv8000 and not a desk top, can I still download the free anti virus software from either Avast or AVG?, because when I checked out the avast it states something like "avast 4 home edition for desk top" when I click on it it shows a picture of an actual desk top. Does it really make a difference if I have a lapt op? and can I download the software? Thanks

You didn't mention what OS you're using. Assuming it's Windows XP or Media Center either will work well. Just don't try to install both on your PC.

If Vista, Avast works well. I haven't checked lately to see if there is a Vista version of AVG.

TIP: You must also remove any older Anti-virus, like Norton or McAfee, before trying either of these.

Desktop or laptop doesn't make a difference.
The license is generic to mean "personal computer" versus "server" or "business computer".

I prefer AVG Free.

Makes no difference if its a desktop or a laptop machine.
Either pieces of software will work, both have their little annoyances but they work.

Yeah, my dad has the free AVG install on his laptop. One of his buddies that's really good with computers installed it for him.
