You could pay for the car with either cash or a m.o. If you pay in cash, make sure the seller gives you a dated receipt & read it carefully to make sure it is filled out correctly. Make sure the title is filled out on the back of the title (upper part) by the seller, before you go to the Title Company to get the car transferred into your name. There will be a fee for this but I don't know how much. If the info on the back is not filled in, the Title Co. will tell you to get it completed before you come back. It was that way in Ohio but it may be different elsewhere.

there are soooo many things you need to do! do you know any S.A.E. certified mechanics? take the car to a shop. not a mom and pop auto shop, but a big chain name. sears auto center is a good one. the reason for the bigger chain shop is that they have a name and reputation to uphold versus a small shop where they can say what they want to get your business. they don't require a certified mechanic in many small shops so the person checking the car out could be as smart about cars as a two year old. be wary! so many things to check out! what kind of car and what year is it?
