The obvious conclusion one draws from people who say that sexual orientation is a choice is that they made a conscious choice to be whatever they say they are today, by the same logic they may change their sexual orientation at any moment..are Christians really that versatile or just really flaky?
Would you want to commit to a relationship with any person who might at any moment choose a different sexual orientation the way these particular Christians apparently think they can?

Research has shown that there is a variation in sexual attraction. Some people are 100% attracted to either the same or opposite sex. For these people choice plays no part in sexual activity. Other people may be 70% attracted to one sex, 30% to the other sex. They may therefore be primarily of one orientation and occasionally experimenting with the alternative. Still other people are 50-50%; for these people it's all about choice. Research has also suggested that people who express strong homophobic attitudes often have a high level of (repressed) attraction to the same sex (call it the Ted Haggard effect).

I was heterosexual before being born. As a Mormon I believe in the pre-mortal life, and that we were already born and raised by a loving family structure and had already progressed and developed to the stature of an adult spirit. As far as this mortal life goes, the first time I felt attracted to a man who was not my father was at age 4, and it was someone on a news station on TV. Now as far as same sex attraction goes, I believe that it is possible to be attracted to someone of either gender; however, if you are missing the doctrine of the premortal life, it is terribly easy to misinterpret that attraction as romantic when it really should be spiritual attraction, since we knew many friends in the premortal life as well. Because I understand the doctrine of the premortal life, I have never had any major threat to my heterosexual viewpoint, but I am more understanding of others' weakness going the other way, because I believe Satan magnifies that weakness whenever he can.

It would be foolish for someone to say that you choose who you're attracted to. Perhaps some can to a degree, but for the most part I don't think you can. However, it is a choice to act on those attractions. Being attracted to the same sex is temptation, acting on that attraction is sin.

I'm not answering as a Christian here, because I'm not one, but are you sure that homosexuality is a choice? I always wonder where people get that idea from.

I have never been attracted to the same sex...
I do believe in Creation, I live by the Bible and follow Gods commandments.
I have believed someone is just 'born that way'...
