i'm guessing since you're asking for her, that your step daughter is fairly young. women don't generally lose their hair, in my experience, unless under stress, or rarely for a medical reason. i suggest going to the doctor's, but it is worth finding out if there is anythign worrying your stepdaughter; for instance, worries at school, or in her social life. stress-related hair loss is common, especially when someone is under a lot of pressure. i myself lost some hair when i wa being bullied in primary shcool, but grew it back again very quickly once the stress was gone.

does your daughter twist or fiddle or chew her hair? this can be another reason for hair loss. my cousin used to twiddle his hair constantly, and huge patches of baldness appeared when he was only 12.
the good news is that if it is stress, or twiddling etc, the hair will grow back quite quickly, and until then, she could get a funky cut.

i do suggest you going to the doctor, however. i personally haven't heard of a medical condition where people lose their hair, except through chemotherapy, and if it is stress-related, i would guess that your step-daughter would talk better to a doctor than you, as the problem could very well be embarrasing.

i hope i've helped. good luck

this happened to me awhile ago....some of the causes could be a change of environment or stress. If her hair is falling out a lot you should definitely see a doctor right away. if he hair is just getting weak here is something that might help. this suggestion might sound crazy but it works to strengthen hair. what you do is right before she showers, blent couple eggs together and put it on her hair. leave it on for say 15 mins then wash it in the shower and shampoo after.
good luck

I have the same problem. Every teens go through hair loss until her hormones are balanced!!!!!!tell her to drink Ensure, beta-carotene(Vitamin-a,b,c,d) and healthy vitamins, menerals and food!!rub castor oil 3-4 into her hair/scalp and leave for the rest of the week. May look greasy, but it is the only way out!!!!! Wash hair ONLY 1-2 times a week at the most, so that the natural hair oils can strengthen and nourish her hair and scalp!!!!!!!!!REmember to otell her to keepa VERY HEALTHY DIET!!!!!!!!!!

It could be bad diet, (try taking a mulit-vitamin mineral) & it also can be lack of exercise or not enough, especially if she's not getting her heart rate up - a good cardio, once in a while. Seriously! Most people know that stress can do it, but so can a lack of exercise. So exercise will also get two birds with one stone. Cuz if it's stress, exercise (a work-out) can help relieve that, too.
Best wishes!

Possibly stress related, is she having any problems that you can think of,school, boyfriend, friends in general, but as already suggested NHS direct or a trip to the Doctors is probably in order, either way try not to draw attention to it as this might just increase her anxiety, and could make things worse.
Good Luck.

Is your daughter stressed? That could be the case. But if not I'm sorry I can't think of anything else. Maybe you should talk to a D.r That would porbaly be the best thing.....

Get her to the doctor immediately. The longer the hair is gone, the less chance it will grow back. Check her stress, hair styling habits, etc. You're in my prayers.

It may pay you to take her for a visit to the Dr. Is she under stress at this time? This can cause hair to fall out. Good Luck.

sounds like alopecia or a bad diet.
is she stressed about something?
thats a main cause.
my best mate got stressed when she moved house and started losing her hair after 3 months it started growing back thicker.

if shes not stressed then i really dunno
try the doctors for better advice
a salon wont do anything if she is losing hair then a thickening shampoo wont help at all.
