What is Northern Ireland like?

Is it culturally more like Britain or Ireland? How is like like or different from England? Is it pretty conservative?

I'm going next week and have read that it's pretty conservative. Take a tour with both a Catholic and a Protestant cabbie. They give 2 totally different tours. Supposed to be a cool place though. Don't discuss religion, sports or politics and you'll be fine.
