Last year I dieted doing Atkins and lost 15 lbs. Now I have gained it all back. Now I can no longer fit into my summer clothes, and have a huge waist and stomach. I am 5'2 and weigh 145 lbs and I am 63 years old. I was always thin, but gained the weight once I hit menopause. I have also been taking an antidepressant for several years which I am told causes carb cravings. I can do fine during the day, I eat yogurt and granola for breakfast, a turkey sandwich for lunch, fruit for snacks. Then just vegies and meat for dinner. This has me starving by 8:00 pm. I have no self control and crave chocolate pudding and ice cream. Anything chocolate. I have never exercised but I am trying to walk at least 30 minutes a day. What should I do differently?

You are doing all the right things. Increase the walking by 10 minutes each day - I have and am up to a v.v.v fast pace for 1 hour.

I know what you mean about the cravings at night. I cannot put the finger on that one either. I don't really want anything, but want something. I am not a sweet eater.

Lately, I found that eating 2 apples around that time really helps.

According to experts, it is suggested that we not eat anything after 7 p.m. I can't do this and think the apples are okay.

Good luck.

I can sympathize with wanting to eat late at night. My suggestion would be too just add a small meal during the day, and then thereby make your actual dinner anywhere from 7:30pm-8:30pm.

As long as you are eating small healthy meals throughout the day, you shouldn't suffer from hunger pangs eating dinner later, and you won't gain extra weight.

It's great that you're walking 30 minutes each day, keep it up!

Atkins screwed you up.

Eat more vegetables. They are very low calorie and low carb.

Also, when you walk, do you sweat? That will definitely cause you to burn fat. Make sure your heart rate is elevated for at least 20 minutes of the walk.
