Religion is superstition. An atheist is someone who lacks belief in any gods.
If atheism is a religion, then bald is a hair color.

I don't they would appreciate being called a religion seeing as they are "against" religion. Agnostics do not believe or disbelieve in god, and Atheists just flat out don't believe there is a god altogether. So when you say religion maybe you need to ask about Judaism or Islam. Don't let em scare you though. I understand you just don't understand. You should take a college course on the worlds religions; It is very interesting, or a philosophy class.

Well we don't like being called a religion. Religions teach a way of life and tell how people should live their life. Atheists reject all of that. We believe in morals and philosophy as a way to life. We believe that there is no god. We have differing thoughts on what comes after death. We are not really united. Some of us want to destroy religions through the use of common sense and logic. Others of us just don't care.

I don't have what I would call a "religion." Becoming an atheist came slowly to me. It wasn't like belief was a switch that I just voluntarily turned off one day. I was raised a Christian, and had a very strong faith growing up. It just, over the years, started to seem more and more ridiculous to me to think that there's some sort of "being" out there. Like we know that ancient man started to look for ways to explain things that they couldn't understand--like the sun rising and setting, the weather, life, disease, etc. They thought that something--some "being" had to be making things happen, because they didn't understand WHAT the sun was, or WHERE the rain came from. Now we know and understand these things, but we haven't really been able to let go of the idea of gods. (Or A God.) I just started to feel that we were stuck in a sort of primitive mind-set. My morals are the same as anyone else's. I'm a loving and faithful wife. I love my children, my family, and my friends. I don't smoke, drink, or do drugs. I do volunteer work and give to charity. I believe in making this world a better place, because I believe that it's all we have. Most atheists are the same as me. You hear from some who are angry and hostile, but most of us aren't. (Though it is extremely frustrating and upsetting to feel that we need to constantly defend ourselves against people who say that we have no morals or values, or that we're evil, or that we don't believe in God because we don't want to take "responsibility" for our actions. It's even more frustrating and infuriating to hear from people like George Bush the first that we shouldn't be considered American citizens because this is "One nation under 'God'." Yes, he actually said that. Can you see WHY we become so angry?) We're good people...not because we're afraid of some sort of punishment in an afterlife, but simply because we're GOOD PEOPLE.

We believe there is no god. That is really it. If you want to know why I'll give you my stock answer since we answer this like 50 times a day:
There is no evidence that there is a god. It isn't rational or reasonable to believe in things without any evidence to back it up. You would be stuck with hundreds of thousands of gods and everything else that human imagination could come up with.
Not believing in god, is the same as not believing in Odin, Zeus, Ra, Hera, The Great Spirit, Osiris, The Flying Spaghetti Monster and all the others. I would be no less surprised of evidence of Odin was found than I would be if evidence of your god was.

I do not have a religion. Atheism is NOT a religion no matter how hard you christians try to make it so. And atheism is a disbelief in any god(s). Nothing more nothing less.

To simplify it, I believe in a higher power, which I call 'god' because that is the standard word in our language for such a being. (I also happen to think of god in female form rather than male as females are the givers and protectors of life). I believe in Jesus Christ, specifically that he was a mortal man who walked the face of the Earth, but was no more a deity than you or I. I believe that he was one of the world's great leaders and I don't deny his influence on modern society, but I don't recognize him as a saviour, nor do I believe he was crucified and risen from the dead in atonement for my sins.
I hope that helps, email if you'd like to know more.

Atheists lack religion. Hence, nothing to explain.
Reading The God Delusion would give you a pretty good understanding, though. (email/IM me if you don't have a copy handy).
