The mother will know. Generally you should have mom on puppy food already to be able to provide extra nutrients in the milk. When the puppies are ready mom will encourage them to eat the puppy food and wean them herself.

Of course i am assuming there is still a mom.

If you are hand raising a puppy then generally a puppy should be introduced to solid food around 3-4 weeks, should be eating it with milk at 6 weeks, and should be fully weaned by 8 weeks.

Good luck!

You can start offering pups softened kibble at 4-5 week old dont substitue moms milk supliment it. Give high quality puppy kibble soaked in water then stick their noses in it. Dont get it up the nose. At 6 weeks the pups should be off mom and on the runny kibble. Keep reduecing the water and at 7-8 weeks their on dry food. Some pups take longer than others to adapt to the dry food

I usually start offering my pups dry puppy food at about 5 weeks while they are still nursing their mother. They go straight from nusing to dry food. I don't like to wean to wet food because that is just another diet change they will have to recover from. Change in diet causes diarrhea, so I would rather not hav eto make them go through that. I have even had some start working on dry food as early as 4 weeks. I let them decide when they are ready. And their mom helps too.

Six to eight weeks, as soon as the mother has weaned the puppies. Offer a dry puppy food, not canned,it makes their stools too loose. Offer plenty of water, fresh water.
