We might have all thought so at one stage,
but the people that make the rules and regulations e.g law and order the establishment do not reflect the intelligence that we are all capable of being part of and contributing to.

So people stop developing their intelligence and forget to utilize it positively. So much is corrupted and then we as humans find it easier to just follow on and look out for number one.

(P.S I don't think intelligence is only academic, its also about the balance of common sense)

If you are referring to intelligent life on Earth as being aliens, then yes I am sure they have paid us a visit but I don't think they would stick around long enough to put down some roots.

Spring always comes with new life and birth
Followed by summer to warm the soft earth —
And what a comfort to know there are reasons
That souls, like nature, must have their seasons

No, as evidenced by the following Monty Python song:

Just remember that you're standing on a planet that's evolving
And revolving at nine hundred miles an hour,
That's orbiting at nineteen miles a second, so it's reckoned,
A sun that is the source of all our power.
The sun and you and me and all the stars that we can see
Are moving at a million miles a day
In an outer spiral arm, at forty thousand miles an hour,
Of the galaxy we call the 'Milky Way'.

Our galaxy itself contains a hundred billion stars.
It's a hundred thousand light years side to side.
It bulges in the middle, sixteen thousand light years thick,
But out by us, it's just three thousand light years wide.
We're thirty thousand light years from galactic central point.
We go 'round every two hundred million years,
And our galaxy is only one of millions of billions
In this amazing and expanding universe.

The universe itself keeps on expanding and expanding
In all of the directions it can whizz
As fast as it can go, at the speed of light, you know,
Twelve million miles a minute, and that's the fastest speed there is.
So remember, when you're feeling very small and insecure,
How amazingly unlikely is your birth,
And pray that there's intelligent life somewhere up in space,
'Cause there's bugger all down here on Earth.

I don't know, it does not look like it at the moment. There certainly is not a politician with enough brain power to light a 5 watt bulb, but what frightens me is that we are letting people like Bush and Tory Liar carry on with their campaigns to return to the world to the dark ages and belief in a non existent god and the supernatural.

(Strains neck over fence)..."I think, I think I see...oh, no. No, Charles! Don't take the crosses down...Stop! Stop asphyxiating the old lady! Oh...oh, Charles, she goes to our church! Stop it! Do you still believe, Charles, do you?!?!?"

(Sighs). "Oh. Well, that's good. At least we know God will forgive you. Try to keep your hands to yourself. No, no...not THERE, Charles! You're 35 now and I can't always keep my eye on you. Remember when we had to relocate after you gave that nice Jewish girl the hose? Remember, Charles? But still you believed. God loves you. God loves you, Charles."

I would have to say very, very little - but the more you seek the more you shall find.
