you have two jugs. a 3 gallon and a 5 gallon jug. without any measuring devices and u have to be exact. how do you get 4 gallons with those two jugs.

Fill the 3 gallon jug. Pour all the contents into the 5 gallon jug. Fill the 3 gallon jug again. Pour contents into the 5 gallon jug until the 5 gallon jug is full. You should now have 1 gallon in the 3 gallon jug. Empty the 5 gallon jug and pour the 1 gallon from the 3 gallon jug into it. Fill the 3 gallon jug again and pour contents into the 5 gallon jug. The 5 gallon jug will now have 4 gallons in it.

Fill the 5 gallon jug and pour it into the 3 gallon jug, leaving 2 gallons in the 5. Dump out the 3 gallon jug and fill it with these 2 gallons. Refill the 5 and pour it into the 3 which only has space for 1 gallon, leaving the 5 gallon with 4 gallons.

Fill the 5 gallon one first...then pour the water from the 5 gallon into the 3 gallon one...now you have 2 gallons in the 5 gallon conatiner.. do the same thing again.

3=1.5 , 5-2.5
1.5+2.5=4
