I've included a link regarding early Illinois women which includes an interesting paper on medical care during the Civil War. Here's an important fact about nurses: a huge advance took place in the field of nursing, where respect for the role of women in medicine rose considerably among both doctors and patients.
The second URL I've included is from Louisa May Alcott's "Hospital Sketches". You may remember her for her famous books, "Little Women", "Little Men", "Work", etc.
The final link is from Virginia Commonwealth University and has many internet links to civil war medicine. Take your choice of important information about nurses from those sources. I hope I've been of some help to you. Good luck.
