Actually, the more you study the history of religion, the more you realize it is just all superstition.

One good reason: if you don't know where your religion came from and how it got to be the way it is then you are basically adhering to your religion for no good reason at all. Without a historical perspective it is impossible to understand religion. For instance do you know that the descendants of Abraham include Moses, Krishna, Zoroaster, Buddha, Jesus, The Bab and Baha'u'llah?
If you don't know that you may not even realize that it is important to you.

Do you know that the point of adoration of jews, christians and muslims was Jerusalem until Muhammad changed it to Mecca? Do you know why Muhammad changed the point of adoration to Mecca?

The more religion is studied, and not from a partisan perspective, the easier it is to see that it is intended for the spiritual advancement of the people. Its what people do with religion that causes all the trouble.

I think history is important. That being said, history and archaeology refute almost everything claimed by almost every religion on the planet.
It is important to study the history of the religion, Not the history as presented by the religion because that is mostly outright lies and slander.
