Because the UK and Italy didnt have to go across the World to save America from the Germans TWICE. America has those bases there to make sure it doesnt happen again over there. (Notice how we have them in Japan and S Korea too)

There's no tactical requirement to have an entire base in the States. The majority of international conflicts are closer to the UK/Italy than they are the US mainland. We do go there on Exercise (I've been to Nellis AFB and Davis Monthan AFB on exercise before). There is no need to have a whole base belonging to us there. They let us stay in their barrack blocks and use their facilities with no problem. We don't have many US controlled bases in the UK anyway, there's only about 4 Airfields controlled by them in British Territories, and the majority of them have tactical reasons (Tanker aircraft, for refuelling long range bombing runs, ground attack F-15E's for bombing and a US Naval sonar station are the ones on the mainland UK I can think of and one more that I shouldn't really talk about). We let them have these bases during WW2 and I'm personally glad they're there. We still have British Army bases in Germany, which are excellent for training purposes. Do you think that we should give them up?
If you'd ever been to a local area around one of these bases, you'd notice that they help the local economy immensely.I used to be based at Coltishall, Norfolk, but the place has closed down and the local area really has lost out. Taxi services have closed down, a bus has re-routed and Norfolk has suffered because of the closure.
Welcome the base, It will greatly help the local economy!

in case you're born to a million US citizen then you definately're a US citizen. you've twin citizenship in the U. S. till 18, regardless of the undeniable fact that. Any land with an American flag is sovereign American territory as consistent with old international rules which nevertheless stand immediately. All US militia bases are dealt with like ships with hues in the morning and at evening so as that they are American territory. I truthfully have heard this declare from some Obama supporters. The declare that Obama isn't a born US citizen is greater credible than those claiming McCain isn't.

the usa has around 700 military bases around the world to protect its , approx.30% is dedicated to protecting oil interests of big corpoations. Oil is the major currency in an industrialised world, it backs up the dollar, and the US military spending, by far the lagest in the world, is a major threat the world peace, and is one of the big polluters.
The US super power status is very much based on gun boat diplomacy nowadays...the consequences are getting very much out of hand if we take a quick look at the map.

Because there is no need for bases in north america, there is no threat to the UK nor as there been for a long time from that direction nor any requirement for staging posts. When RAF personnel were stationed in N.America it was usually at bases in Canada such as Goose Bay.

There is no need for European military bases in the USA they can manage quite well without our help. However they do let us use their bases for training and visits.
Who's talking about demilitarisation anyway? With American forces in Britain we don't need to pay for such a big army and airforce.
The people serving join the local community and the surrounding areas tend to be well kept and crime free.
Bring 'em on they are welcome in my books.

The US and the UK are members of NATO, as are many European nations, and are supposed to cooperate in mutual defence. There is a steady stream of military personnel crossing the Atlantic for training, liaison and military exercises.

You sound like the average European hypocrit who is from some western EU country that used to be a large world power. Look at history before you condemn the United States solely on the merits of its own current status.
Think about this: The UK and Italy both formerly had colonies and military bases all over the world. You ask why the UK and Italy don't have bases in the US when the UK had bases in the US and Canada and most of the rest of the world for several centuries. The UK dominated a large portion of Africa and was responsible for the servitude and mass murder of millions of native Africans. The UK was also partly responsible for the introduction of slavery and the slave trade in North America. Italy enslaved and mass murdered tens of thousands of Ethiopians during the first half of the 20th century under its fascist dictator (Mussolini). Spain and Germany and France were no better; Francisco Franco ruled Spain for several decades as a fascist dictator and brutally murdered thousands of Spanish civilians. Not to mention Cortez's mass murder of the Aztecs in Mexico. Germany? Yes, there was Hitler, but there were also the fiercely violent Prussian aristocrats that had a hand in starting the first world war and Germany's colonial and military presence in west Africa and the South Pacific. France? I hate to tell you this but the French government collaborated with Hitler once he rolled in, and before that, France's policy of making the world French and forcing the non-British part of Africa into servitude wasn't any better.
Europeans have a holier-than-thou attitude because it has been almost a century since they committed their own crimes against humanity. Does that justify the United States' invasion of Iraq? No, it doesn't. But when people like you make pointless comments like this it only illustrates the hypocricy and denial in Europe about your own colonial and military history. The United States has bases in Europe because it is currently an imperial power in the same way that the UK and Italy once were. This is not always a good thing (as in the case with Iraq), but it is history and it is the very recent history that Europeans seem to have forgotten. Criticism of the United States is an easy luxury you now have but I suggest you wake up and realize that you sound ignorant, hypocritical, and stereotypically western European.

America builds military bases in Britain and Europe for the protection of Britain and Europe. America can defend itself and therefore does not need European military bases in the US. Britain and Europe on the other hand need American protection.
Have you no sense of history ?
