I'd find out where they are coming from. It could be school, a friends house, the babysitter's, a family memember, or daycare. Just watch where he goes and then when/if he gets it. You should be able to find out the perpatrator rather easily.
Also, sometimes the school gives kids warm weather gear (like hats) for recess. It could be the gear is contaminated. Also, they will jump from person to person. So, it could even happen on a bus or at church. Just keep your eyes peeled as to where he's going and when it shows up.
Once you figure that out you'll be able to get rid of them once and for all. Treatments are available like the comb that electracutes them, but that's really a pain if you have to do any treatment over and over.

Take him to a dermatologist, for starters. You might want to keep his hair very short, as well.
Secondly, zero in on where the parasites are coming from - school? Daycare? A particular friend? Once you've found the source of the problem, you might want to find another daycare, have the other child treated, or have a talk with your son's teacher or school nurse about getting the other children treated, so he won't get repeatedly reinfected by contact with infected children.

Find out if the school has carpet in it. They may need to pull the carpet up.
Next treat his head. Wash all linens. Vacuum everything that can be. Spray the couches and beds with lice spray. Store things that cant be cleaned in bags for 2 weeks. Inform the school or daycare where he attends. The other kids need to be checked. Tell your son not to use other peoples combs brushes hats or anything.

First of all, you must treat everything. Wash sheets, pillows, clothes( that came in contact with lice) in hot water. Treat the seats in the car (if they are cloth). Put any stuffed animals in garbage bags for 2 weeks. Treat everyone in the house with shampoo (Nix is recomended by doctors). There is a spray you can use to treat the furniture. Also, vacuum the floors. Re-check hair often. As soon as it warms up re-check hair. Hope this helps.

I bought a comb which electrocutes the living lice. Its really good as its a quick solution which I repeat regularly. Every once in a while I give my kids a dose of Derbac to kill all eggs.
My daughter who has longer hair - I run my hair straighteners through every now and again and that kills everything!

Cut his hair really short (practically bald, but with about 1/3 of an inch left. There won't be enough hair for them to grow on.
