Travellers cheques are a good idea because you are covered if they get nicked. No-one can cash the cheques without your passport. This benefit also comes with the minor downside that you have to cash your cheques in specific places, but hotels can usually do it. I think its best to take a combo of things on hol then you're covered all ways. Take some cash so you don't have to accept a rubbish exchange rate because you are desperate for the money, and you can have time to look around for a good rate. Take your card to buy bigger things, and they might be insured by your card company for loss or damage, and take travellers cheques for the security.
Have a great trip!

Take a credit and debit card. Nationwide offer you the best rate of exchange with their credit cards. Like the previous advice, use the credit card for any large purchases. Use the Nationwide debit card to draw money directly from cash machines. They are abundant in Florida and across the US. I wouldn't recommend taking in a large amount of cash or traveller's cheques. Although try and take some small denomination Dollars, you will find these probably come in really handy, and if you are driving, remember that there are toll roads out there and you will need some change for these.
At least if you take a debit card you can take out only what you need at a time and if you get short you can just go and draw more out. Also you don't have the hassle of changing up travellers cheques.
Have a great time!

We still take a few travelers checks, but its mostly habit.... we hardly every cash them anymore. Take a small amount of cash and a credit card and an ATM card. Make sure everything stays safe.... wear a money belt. If you're going to the beach, use the hotel safe to protect your valuables.

I'd take a few quid in cash but I'd use the Visa card predominantly. Just take cash out as and when you need to.
Nationwide offers commission free foreign transactions.
