Next year, I am going to Greece over Spring Break. What do you think is the better idea?
(1) Take a bunch of Euros with me, not use an ATM
(2) Take a few Euros, carry an ATM card/debit card
(3) Use traveler's cheques
(4) Just use credit/debit card

Please explain. Thanks!

(1) No. Take only a small amount with you and then use the ATM in the country you are in; not at your point of origin. Only that way will you get the true and actual exchange rate.
(3) Traveller's cheques are OK but really not necessary when you have ATM and credit cards
(4) Europe is not like the north America where people carry no money and then use a debit or credit card to buy a pack of chewing gum. If you try that in Europe you'll get people pissed off. In Europe it's not uncommon for people to walk around with hundreds or even thousands of Euros in cash on them. I've seen people buying Plasma TV's over there with cash and the cashiers don't have to call the manager for change and approval like over here.
So... use the ATM and buy everything in cash.

We still take a small amount in travelers checks with us, but that's mostly just habit... we hardly ever cash them anymore. Take a small amount of cash and use a credit card and ATM to get Euros as you need them. Be sure to protect your money and valuables by wearing a money belt. If you're going to the beach, use the hotel safe to protect your valuables.
