My mum and dad recently had professional family photos done and are looking for frames for them. They didn't buy the frames from the company as they were so expensive but all the frames we have found in the shops seem to be 8x10. Obviously the company know this and make the photos this size so you have to buy their frames but am just wondering if anyone knows of somewhere we could get frames to fit?

As a professional photographer i always use a larger frame than the photograph so that it shows the photo to it best. to small a frame and you have to look to closely, If you go to a framing shop (Yellow Pages) they will recommend a larger frame. If you have spent out money to have a professional take the image why be a cheapskate with the frame The photographer does not make a lot of money on frames its the images that he wants you to buy and repeat orders. Buying a good frame is worth it in the end

I just did a google search on 7x10 frame and came up with frames-direct.com at the link below. There are also other sources that come up with that search. If you don't like those frames, you can have a mat made that will fit your photo and fit into a standard 8x10 frame.

In the US, we have a store called "Michael's Arts & Crafts." There are others, such as A.C. Moore (mentioned by Labatt113) that might have the same products. They sell frame components individually, so you could get two 10 inch sides and two 7 inch sides and there you go. You will have to get some glass cut. They can do this at Michael's or you can go to a hardware store with your frame and say, "I need some glass cut to fit this frame." Do NOT try to have them cut glass from your dimensions, because if it is 0.003" too big, it will break when you try to put it in the frame. Let them fit it themsevles. You'll have to cut the backing yourself, but that's easy to do if you just buy the materials at Michael's or A.C.Moore, etc.

Oh Man what a rip off. Talk about monopoly 101 I guess they majored in that.

Anyway you have a few options. First you can cut a frame down. Second you can use a 11x14 frame and get solid matting and cut the mat down yourself. You can do this by using a square (tool) and razor or have a framing shop do this. They also sell mat cutters but they tend to be expensive.

AC Moore has lots of supplies and sometimes odd frame and mat sizes.

Well we dont have much in the way of pictures in the house so we decided to buy a digital photo frame and put it up in the hall, unfortunately we bought some cheap crap £60 i think it was and the pictures dont come out right, they look all screwed up, the wrong colours, yada yada yada. If your gonna buy one spend the money on a good one a few hundred quid, as anything else is a waste of time.
