im just about to sell my car and the only part of my log book i can find is the right hand page sections 9 to 11. can i get the change of address form from the post office and just use that with the new buyers details so they can register the car in there name. i rang the dvla to querry this and they said i can but im hearing all sorts of things about not having the v5 so can anyone help PLEASE! im aware that its 19 pound to get the new one so i would knock that off the price of the car.

You need your log book.

heres the best thing to do, tell the buyer to take the car and then write to DVLA saying that I am in possesion of the car but have got no V5 Document and make up a reason but don't say they've misplaced it or anything like that say they never got it in the first place. what DVLA will do then is write to you (the seller) asking you what has happened they will write asking you to fill out a form stating why the other person has asked for the V5 document e.g has the car been stolen or is there a dispute. They will ask you to get in contact with them within 14 days if you don't they will send the buyer the V5 document on their name. It is a bit of a lengthy process but the cheapest and will only work if you know the other person or else they'll think it's a fraud.

Knock off the £19 and let the new owner do it - it's easier in the long run. Just show him the bit you have and let him ring DVLA - the paperwork only takes a few days to come thru - so if the vehicle has tax on it - it shouldn't be a prob

You can - but it might make the buying wonder if the car is nicked. Best apply for a new log with the DVLA before you sell it.
